The therapeutic effects of light therapy using a SAD light alarm or natural light alarm is well known these days. Sunrise simulators can alleviate the symptoms associated with winter blues or seasonal affective disorder. The NatureBright Suntouch plus is one of the most affordable light therapy sunrise simulator clock in the market. It uses a 10,000 lux lamp which emits full spectrum simulated sunlight at the recommended maximum intensity. The SunTouch is designed to be self supporting. That is, there are no stands or legs needed to mount the device on your desk. It can easily be turned about its base to face you. This ensures your eyes can detect the SAD light alarm with ease.
The SunTouch combines light therapy with negative Ion therapy as well. Negative Ion therapy is not widely accepted as science by the medical community, but it has been known to alleviate allergies and sterilize close proximity air. Within the unit there are four florescent light bulbs that produce the 17,000 Kelvin necessary to power the device. Though these light bulbs do not last as long as LED bulbs would, they are fairly long lasting. Each bulb goes for about 60 dollars from NatureBright and by utilizing four bulbs you can still use the device even if one bulb malfunctions. The SunTouch uses a standard 120V ac power cable requiring only 45 watts of power. If you intend to use this as a energy saving solution to your lighting needs you will have to look elsewhere. This is because the SunTouch is geared towards SAD sufferers and is not intended for use for long periods at a time.
The manufacturer claims that this device is easily portable, though I found that the design makes it difficult to conceal in a small travel bag when going on trips. The SunTouch occupies 15.6 x 11.3 x 8.4 inches and weighs 6 pounds. It can be set for various session times. Session times can vary from 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes although the recommended session time is 30 minutes maximum per day. The SunTouch is designed to go off automatically when the configured time interval has elapsed. With this feature you can be sure that you do not overuse the sunrise simulator.
At a retail price of 90 dollars and a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty, this sunrise simulator clock is had to beat. I found this a great value for money considering it also releases high density ions that help you feel energized. This combination added confidence in my decision to buy.
