Verilux HappyLite Deluxe Sunshine Simulator

Verilux have numerous products designed especially for people who suffer from SAD. With the Happylite Deluxe, you can get your daily amount of appropriate sunshine to help alleviate the feeling of fatigue, dampened mood, low alertness, low concentration and generally improving your body’s sense of well being. You can carry this sunrise and dawn simulator with you in a carry bag. I found this to be one of the most convenient features of this sunrise simulator clock. With its one of a kind design, the Happylite takes only 19.5 x 13 x 4 inches of space. It has a useful stand at the back and a sturdy base that you can use when placing it on your desk. It even allows you to mount the Sunrise simulator clock on the wall if need be. This is something you don’t see very often with other sunrise alarm clocks.

Even with it’s more convenient design, the HappyLite still ways more than other sunrise simulators in the market. Typically these simulators would weigh in at about 2.5 to 3.0 pounds. The Verilux weighs in at 6.8 pounds. Not such a major drawback but if you intend to carry it with you say between work and home, the added weight may be much more noticeable. On a positive note however, the Verilux can emit the maximum recommended light (National Health Council) at 10,000 lux, which I found could easily illuminate the average sized room. Bright yes, but this is easily adjustable via the programmable buttons. Even at its maximum brightness you will not suffer from any harmful effects of UV. The electronic ballasts in the unit will ensure that Verilux operates without any flickering of the emitted lights. In addition, it operates with almost flawless silence. None of that humming or buzzing noise you’ve come to expect from fluorescent light bulbs and no delay when coming on (instant on function at configured brightness).

The quality of the light is very soothing with none of that glaring brightness that gives you the urge to turn the lamp off. I have seen many other Sunrise Alarm Clocks that haven’t quite got the balance between soothing light and annoyingly bright light. If you intend to use this sunshine simulator for light therapy, expect to use it for 30 minutes at the minimum before you notice a change in your mood. The cost of the HappyLite is right up there under ‘expensive’ at about 190 dollars retail, but if you decide to go for it you will get absolute quality craftsmanship.
